About
Ella Jennings (b. 2001) was raised in Burbank, Southern California. The house that appears in many of her paintings is her childhood home — a 1928 Spanish-style craftsman — that her family still resides in.
Her artistic training began in high school with lessons in watercolor and oil. In the summer of 2018, she attended the California State Summer School for the Arts at CalArts with an emphasis on visual arts and painting. Although she considered pursuing a career in animation because of her proximity to the studios of Burbank, Jennings opted to pursue her dual interests in psychology and fine art at Westmont College, a liberal arts institution in Santa Barbara, CA. She graduated with two bachelor of arts degrees in these majors in 2023. Currently, she works as the Education & Outreach Coordinator at the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art in Santa Barbara, as well as continuing her career in psychology and serving at her church.
Jennings is interested in interior, architectural structures as settings where our lives play out. Through the contrast of light and dark, abstracted shapes and simplified forms, and cool and warm colors, she explores themes of home, memory, and faith.
